On Saturday, March 11, 2017, I was fortunate enough to be able to attend Lily Collins’s book launch for her first book, “Unfiltered: No Shame, No Regrets, Just Me”, at Barnes and Noble in The Grove, Los Angeles!
In case you didn’t know about Lily’s book, here’s a little info on it:
In this groundbreaking debut essay collection, featuring never-before-seen photos, actress Lily Collins—star of Mortal Instruments and the upcoming Rules Don’t Apply—is opening a poignant, honest conversation about the things young women struggle with: body image, self-confidence, relationships, family, dating, and so much more.
For the first time ever, Lily shares her life and her own deepest secrets, underlining that every single one of us experiences pain and heartbreak. We all understand what it’s like to live in the light and in the dark. For Lily, it’s about making it through to the other side, where you love what you see in the mirror and where you embrace yourself just as you are. She’s learned that all it takes is one person standing up and saying something for everyone else to realize they’re not alone.
By turns hilarious and heartbreaking, Lily’s honest voice will inspire you to be who you are and say what you feel. It’s time to claim your voice! It’s time to live your life unfiltered. (via Goodreads)
Find the Book:
My friends and I arrived around 8am – one hour before the store opened – to get in line. By the time we actually found the line though, there were already about 50 people waiting! Not surprising. We still managed to get a good spot though – 4th row!
After buying our books and getting our wristbands we left to grab some breakfast. The signing wasn’t going to start until later in the afternoon so we had time. That also gave us time to start reading her book! I’ll be honest and say that I was captivated from the first chapter. Lily’s voice comes through in her writing and that combined with her inspiring, and always positive attitude and perspective, really drew me in. By the time we finished breakfast and made our way back to Barnes and Noble I had already read a good chunk of the beginning.
We sat at the edge of the fourth row, which was not bad at all! We had a great view and I was at the very end so I had an unobstructed view of Lily when she walked in looking classically lovely, as always.
After standing in the front for a few moments, allowing the photographers to get their photos, she looked at us and jokingly commented, “This isn’t awkward at all”. Once that was done, she insisted that she take a group photo with us (which the events manager already informed us about) so we were ready to hold up our books for her photo. 🙂 She then spoke briefly about her book before reading an excerpt from one of the chapters, a letter she wrote for the reader. Afterwards was the Q&A portion of the event where she pulled questions audience members had written while waiting for her.
Lastly, it was time for the signing! She signed and personalized each person’s book, then took a photo (by their professional photographer only, no selfies or video recording of any kind was allowed) with them. I believe her event was originally suppose to be just a discussion and signing, but Lily is the sweetest and insisted that she be able to sign and personalize every single person’s copy of her book. I’m not sure who added the photo part of the event but I’m glad they did.
I witnessed some funny, and sweet moments Lily had with fans as they came up to meet her. When it was my turn, I didn’t really know what else to say except that she’s such a beautiful person inside and out; such an inspiration to me and so many young women; and that she will always be my favorite Clary. 😉
Thanks to Barnes and Nobles at The Grove for hosting another wonderful author event!
